Our 2003 Summer ITC went once more well at the European Diving Career Institute in Varna, where 2 new NAUI Instructors graduated from our facility in association with Consult Dive International: Mr. Alex Vasauskas from Anchorage, Alaska, and Mr. Giacomo Palavicini of Mexico.
In the process, Mr. Ivan Ivanov, Director of the Institute and Varna Diving Centre requalified as a NAUI Instructor Trainer, and his son Ivailo Ivanov, a graduate from the very first ITC in Varna, qualified as an ITC Staff and Evaluator. The international surrounding and level of experience were invaluable to the training, and the candidates graduated with high passing scores on both exams and teaching evaluations.
The final process of the Instructor Qualification has been shown on the local television channel in the wake of developping more diving educational awareness among the local Bulgarian population, always eager of new water expreriences.
Once more, we wish all the best to the new NAUI Instructors and ASHI First Aid Instructors in their diving career endeavours.

Consult Dive International and the European Diving Career Institute in Varna, Bulgaria once more joined forces to train 5 new NAUI Instructors for the Balkan region. In the successful process, the first female Bulgarian NAUI instructor has been certified: Ms Maria Mantcheva, a 20 year old student in physics at the University of Vienna. Also 20 yeat ols Emilian Constantin became the youngest Instructor certified in his home land: Romania.
We wish all the best of success in their future career to the new NAUI Instructors!...

Consult Dive International and Aquaventure, BVI will run together a NAUI ITC in Tortola, British Virgin Islands in August 2002 and every summer thereafter, the course will be run by awards winner NAUI Course Director Freddy Claro, assisted by Phil Brown, owner of Aquaventure BVI, please contact us for all information on this program or click here

Consult Dive International will teach NAUI courses from beginner up to Instructor levels in Kumamoto, Kyushu, Japan, starting in April 2002. We will be relocating in Kumamoto, a beautiful historical city, which was home of the famous samourai Miyamoto Musashi and where the founder of modern Judo Jigoro Kano Sensei was the headmaster of a college.
We will develop the NAUI system of divers education in cooperation with Blue Earth 21, a known NAUI facility in the region, specifically for the expatriate foreign group of people, with a dual philosophy in mind for our training: first to train safe and good divers and getting them started with scuba diving in the friendly Kumamoto environment, and secondly, to train divers in a familiar place, avoiding them to spend 4 days or more of their hardly earned holidays in training. We will send them to the exotic Asian tropical diving destinations already safely trained and certified. We believe this will increase the fun in future dive travel for our graduates.
We will also schedule two NAUI ITCs and Crossovers per year in Kumamoto and we hope training a few new NAUI Instructors for the region.
Of course all Japanese divers or beginners will be welcome to join any of our courses either in Japanese with the Blue Earth 21 staff or within our English courses. It will be a great opportunity for Japanese students with intermediate and upper intermediate English or French languages skills to learn scuba and practice more their foreign languages.

We have been informed by Jim Bram, President of NAUI worldwide that our Course Director: Frederick "Freddy" Claro is one of the the recipients of the 2001 NAUI Worldwide Outstanding Service Award for the promotion of international NAUI Professional Development.
Congratulations to Freddy and all other recipients. Announcement will be made in the January 2002 issue of our NAUI magazine "Sources".

As from now on, part of the curriculum of the PMBC will be to teach NAUI Scuba Diver, Advanced and Specialty courses to involve trained students more in the reef research around Phuket and Thailand. The PMBC is responsible for the "Reef Check Thailand" Program, involving biology students and volunteers to inspect, research and protect the fragile coral reef ecosystem in Thailand, as well as collecting data useful in establishing goals for the protection of this natural and wonderful habitat.
The course was run at PMBC, by NAUI Course Director Pachara "Pat" Koentana, assisted by our Course Director Frederick "Freddy" Claro, who was the IQP or Qualification Program evaluator. All in-water evaluations were made from the PMBC vessel, a well designed and modern Marine Biology Research vessel.

The candidates were fully accommodated at the Institute, making all learning and training experiences more simple, intense and fun!...Everyone also enjoyed first class Bulgarian cuisine under the mastery of "chef" Nadia, wife of Ivan and our host for these delightful weeks. Meal time was always a great moment both for the culinary experiences and for the feedback and information sharing among candidates and staff.
All courses had a 100% passing rates although some make ups were necessary and we are pleased to welcome the following individuals as NAUI Instructor Trainers or new divemaster, instructor members:
ITW graduates: Mr. Phil Brown from the BVI, whose experience as former professor and dive shop owner in the BVI was invaluable, as well as his great sense of humor!
