European Diving Career Institute, Varna
NAUI in the Balkans, Part Two
Following our first experience introducing NAUI in the Balkans region in Bulgaria
early 2000, Consult Dive International and Varna Diving Centre joined
again forces to conduct the second instructor program in the heart of the
Black Sea resorts.
After achieving the first ever NAUI Professional Development Program and
ITC in April-May 2000, our NAUI members in Varna went through a very
promising first summer season with Albena Diving Centre and Varna Diving
Centre, NAUI affiliate members. Courses and passport programs were run
with Bulgarian, Russian and German tourists, who were delighted to
unexpectedly experience scuba diving during their vacation in Varna.
Numerous diving tours were also organized on the various shipwrecks off
the coast and to dive the antique submerged Roman city of Kamen Briak,
north of Varna.
In
September, we went back on location to train the second team of NAUI
members, who will be active in training the divers of the Bulgarian Navy.
Four
very experienced candidates joined the program and were trained as NAUI
rescue divers. They also completed the ASHI First Aid / CPR course and
participated in a 4 day Prep Course before starting the 9 day ITC. Weather
conditions were stormy during the whole training process and most of the
training dives were done in poor visibility and strong surge. The
candidates showed extreme competency, safety and controlled skills in
these difficult conditions.
All
but one candidate, who was recalled on duty to the Ministry of Defense in
the capital Sofia, qualified as NAUI instructors with above average scores
on every segment of the evaluation.
We
are proud to welcome these new NAUI members in Bulgaria, who will actively
train navy divers and open two new NAUI facilities in Plovdiv, the second
biggest city in Bulgaria, and Sofia. The following individuals graduated
from the first ITW and second ITC in Bulgaria:
-Ivan

-Giorgi Nicolov Giorghiev, ITC graduate
-Krasimir Kostadinov, ITC graduate
-Rumen Jelezharov, ITC graduate
-Latchezar Lazarov, ITC incomplete status, NAUI Divemaster
To
facilitate the training process and the development of NAUI in Europe, an
integrated facility has been created under the auspices of Varna Diving
Centre (a NAUI Gold Pro affiliate member) - the European
Diving Career Institute. The aim is to
offer NAUI leadership training in an all-inclusive, stress free
environment. NAUI leadership courses will be taught on site in the
Institute, reducing the negative impacts of usual training such as
transportation, meals, pool (all are on site) and open water dive site
travel.
The
Institute has everything integrated: classroom, pool, rooms, kitchen,
restaurant and dive sites within 10 minutes of the centre. The Institute
offers special packages for leadership and instructor training in this
beautiful European resort place. Courses will be taught in English,
French, German, Bulgarian, and Russian by staff fluent in the language of
choice.
All
levels of NAUI training are available through the facilities. Training up
to NAUI Dive Master will be handled by Varna Diving Centre and the
Instructor programs by the Institute in this new convenient format.
The
European Diving Career Institute is
offering the edge of NAUI training in Europe and we believe that its
facilities and formula will please serious divers who are pursuing a
career within the recreational diving industry in Europe or worldwide.
